Esther Mfonyam is a licensed marriage and family therapist practicing in North Carolina with over 12 years of experience supporting individuals, couples, and families. She earned a Master of Arts in Counseling from Columbia International University in 2011 and has provided services in a variety of settings including schools, family shelters, health clinics, community mental health agencies, and faith-based organizations.
Her work focuses on helping people navigate lifeâs challenges and strengthen relationships—both with others and with themselves. She specializes in assisting clients facing stress, anxiety, relationship difficulties, family conflict, parenting concerns, depression, trauma and abuse, grief, intimacy-related issues, sleeping disorders, anger management, self-esteem struggles, career difficulties, bipolar disorder, addictions, ADHD, coping with life changes, compassion fatigue, and coaching.
Esther views the quality of life as closely tied to the quality of our relationships, and she pays careful attention to how family of origin shapes relational patterns. Those early patterns can be understood and reshaped, and present relationships offer opportunities for healing and growth.
Her therapeutic approach draws on Attachment Theory, Family Systems Theory, Client-Centered Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Experiential Therapy to identify relational patterns and guide clients toward meaningful insight and lasting change. She aims to provide a compassionate, supportive environment where clients can feel seen and empowered.
Many people wonder whether remote therapy can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, or adjusting to life changes, online therapy has been found to be similarly effective to in-person care for most situations.
A major benefit is flexibility. Clients can choose the format that fits their lifestyle and comfort level - video sessions, phone calls, live chat, or in-app messaging - which makes it easier to maintain consistent access to support.
All therapists providing online services are licensed professionals, and clients have the option to switch therapists if they seek a different fit. For day-to-day emotional challenges and relationship work, remote therapy can be a convenient and effective way to get help without sacrificing professional standards of care.
