James Milner is a Georgia-licensed clinical social worker with 11 years of experience providing therapy. He earned a Bachelor of Social Work from Savannah State University and a Master of Social Work from the University of Georgia and brings that clinical training into a range of community and private practice settings.
Early in his career he served as a Mental Health Specialist for Community Concerns, Inc., supervising a transitional housing program for severely mentally ill homeless men and later advancing to the agency’s Executive Director role. In leadership he designed and implemented supportive housing initiatives including an emergency shelter, transitional housing for women, a dual-diagnosis substance abuse residential program, and an apartment complex offering onsite supportive services for homeless families.
Alongside nonprofit work, he founded S.H.A.N.T.I Psychotherapy, LLC - an approach grounded in Spiritual, Holistic and Natural Therapeutic Interventions - and provided contracted counseling services at Georgia State University’s Counseling and Testing Department before maintaining a private office in downtown Decatur, Georgia.
James is also a licensed and ordained Baptist minister who serves as Assistant Pastor and Lead Pastoral Counselor at the Chapel of Christian Love Baptist Church. His additional trainings include yoga practice, Reiki mastery, certification as a meditation instructor, certification as an anger management trainer, and training in hypnotherapy.
In session he uses an eclectic approach that blends philosophy, psychology and spirituality, and he applies evidence-based practices alongside transpersonal techniques when appropriate. He focuses on helping adults explore how personal history connects to current challenges, and he strives to treat each person as an individual rather than as a label. His practice reflects a personal philosophy captured by the phrase “mind over body...spirit over mind.”
For many common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and navigating life changes, online therapy has been shown to be an effective alternative to traditional in-person sessions. It can provide comparable outcomes for those issues while offering practical advantages that make engagement easier.
One major benefit is flexibility - clients can meet with therapists in the format that best suits their routine and comfort level, whether via video sessions, phone calls, live chat, or in-app messaging. That flexibility helps therapy fit into busy or unpredictable schedules and reduces barriers to consistent care.
All participating therapists are licensed professionals, and clients have the option to switch providers if they feel a different match would be more helpful. For many people, online therapy is a convenient and effective way to address everyday mental health needs and to move forward with personal growth.
