Janet Giles is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist practicing in California with 21 years of clinical experience. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings and has also served as an adjunct professor in the counseling program at National University, where she taught courses such as Lifespan Development, Child and Adolescent Development, Theories of Personality, and Psychopathology.
Janet understands that beginning therapy can feel intimidating and commends the courage it takes to seek personal growth and healing. Her aim is to establish a comfortable, safe environment for the therapeutic work they undertake together. She works with individuals facing new life challenges as well as those coping with significant loss and hardship.
Her clinical approach adapts to the needs of each client, drawing primarily on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, client-centered and strength-based methods, and mindfulness techniques. When appropriate, she incorporates other therapeutic modalities to address specific concerns. Areas of focus include parenting and relationship issues, supporting victims of abuse and domestic violence, and treating anxiety and depression.
Outside of her clinical and teaching roles, Janet is an artist who has been accepted into several art exhibitions. She brings a creative sensibility to the therapeutic process and enjoys sewing, knitting, and a good game of chess. Janet places great value on the therapeutic relationship and looks forward to meeting clients and supporting them on their path toward greater wellness and a more fulfilling life.
