Laurie Stricker completed her Master of Social Work in April 1998 while working full-time and began volunteering at a domestic violence shelter to explore ways to support at-risk families. Her early interest in family-focused interventions guided the path of her clinical career.
Her first position after earning the master’s degree was in the foster care system, where she developed a deeper understanding of child welfare, family dynamics, and the legal processes that affect families.
She later returned to her hometown in northeast Michigan to serve as an infant mental health specialist, a role that strengthened her skills in working with trauma, conducting family therapy, and delivering services within clients' homes.
Employment in the local hospital’s behavioral health services further broadened her experience, allowing her to provide individual psychotherapy to people of all ages and to work with in-patient units focused on substance abuse and mental illness during her time there.
A subsequent move to the VA added another layer of professional growth and learning. With 21 years of experience, she considers her background and training to have shaped her into a well-rounded therapist who is comfortable using different therapeutic modalities with a variety of clients. She is licensed in Michigan as a Master of Social Work - LMSW (license number 6801077076) and practices in Michigan.
Many people ask whether remote therapy can truly help. For a range of common concerns - including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions - online therapy has been shown to be as effective as traditional in-person treatment.
One of the primary advantages is convenience. Individuals can meet with a therapist in the format that fits their needs and schedule best - whether by video call, a phone session, live chat, or in-app messaging - which can make it easier to maintain regular appointments.
All participating clinicians are licensed professionals, and clients have the option to change therapists if they feel a different fit would be more helpful. For many people, this combination of accessibility and professional care makes online therapy a practical and effective way to address everyday mental health concerns and life challenges.
