Dr. Sandra McClennen is a practicing psychologist based in Ohio who is licensed to practice independently in both Michigan and Ohio. She brings 35 years of clinical experience and also provides supervision for psychologists who hold a master’s degree.
Her areas of focus include stress, anxiety, relationship issues, self esteem, addictions, LGBT concerns, family conflicts, trauma and abuse, grief, intimacy-related issues, parenting issues, anger management, depression, coping with life changes, and ADHD. Over many years she has helped people manage difficult emotions such as anxiety, stress, frustration, anger, sadness and grief, and at times depression, as well as the communication challenges that can arise between people.
Dr. McClennen has worked with parents and children, adult children and their parents, siblings, and couples to improve the ways they communicate with one another. She holds a humanistic philosophy and frequently uses tools from cognitive behavioral therapy. She also teaches mindfulness and meditation skills that many people find helpful.
She emphasizes that every person has value and that blame is often harmful. Dr. McClennen helps people stop “beating themselves up,” encourages recognition and acceptance of emotions, and supports using thoughtful reflection rather than immediate action. She listens carefully, offers nonjudgmental respect, and aims to work collaboratively with those seeking help.
Many people wonder whether meeting with a therapist online can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and navigating life changes, online therapy has been shown to be as effective as traditional in-person care for most people.
One major benefit is flexibility - clients can choose the format that fits their life, including video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. This flexibility makes it easier to maintain continuity of care and to fit sessions into a busy schedule.
All therapists available through these services are licensed professionals, and it’s possible to change therapists if a different match is needed. For many individuals, online therapy provides an accessible and practical way to pursue mental health support without changing the core therapeutic elements that make treatment effective.
