Sarah Matas is a licensed clinical social worker in Pennsylvania with more than 20 years of experience helping individuals and families navigate life transitions. She earned a master’s degree from the Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work and has spent much of her career working in hospice, medical home care, and long-term care, regularly visiting clients’ homes to support those facing chronic health issues, stress and anxiety, depression, grief and loss, and caregiver burnout.
Her therapeutic approach begins in the here and now and emphasizes clients’ existing strengths. She works from a humanistic perspective and trusts that each person brings valuable knowledge to the therapy process; her role is to listen, offer genuine concern, and help clients develop new tools, fresh perspectives, and healthier ways of interpreting their experiences. Sarah pays careful attention to the role of thought patterns, helping clients identify distorted or unhelpful thinking that can sap motivation and mood.
Being a social worker is integral to who she is. Over the years she has been a mother - including a period as a single parent - a grandmother, a colleague, a supervisor, and a caregiver, and she draws on that life experience to support clients in moving toward the “better place” they envision for themselves.
Many people wonder whether online therapy can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or managing life changes, online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as traditional in-person care.
A major benefit is flexibility - clients can meet with their therapist in the format that fits their life best, whether that’s a video appointment, a phone session, a live chat, or messaging within an app. That flexibility makes it easier to keep up with therapy when schedules are busy or travel is difficult.
All participating therapists are licensed professionals, and clients may change therapists at any time if they feel a different fit would be more helpful. Online therapy offers an accessible, adaptable way to work on common mental health and life concerns with a qualified clinician.
