Dr. Sheri Balsam is a licensed psychologist who earned her Psy.D. with a concentration in Multicultural Psychology from Rutgers University. Based in New Jersey, she holds psychologist licenses in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania and brings eight years of clinical experience to her practice.
She completed extensive clinical training working with teenagers and adults across a range of settings and has pursued specialized postdoctoral training in cognitive behavioral therapy. Her work integrates cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and psychodynamic techniques to create individualized, evidence-informed interventions that target symptom relief and lower emotional distress.
Dr. Balsam assists people dealing with stress and anxiety, depressive disorders, relationship and marital concerns, family conflicts, life transitions, addictions, trauma and abuse, grief, LGBT-related issues, intimacy difficulties, eating and sleeping disorders, anger management, self-esteem challenges, and career-related struggles. She focuses on helping individuals identify and build on their personal strengths to promote meaningful, lasting change.
Her therapeutic style is collaborative, supportive, and empathetic, designed to help each person feel heard and understood while learning coping skills, communication strategies, and practical tools to change unhelpful patterns. Dr. Balsam views starting therapy as an expression of courage and hope and considers it a privilege to be invited into a person’s story. She welcomes questions by email and looks forward to speaking with prospective clients.
Many people wonder whether online therapy can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or navigating life changes, online therapy has been shown to be as effective as traditional in-person sessions.
One of the main benefits is flexibility - clients can connect in the way that works best for them, whether by video call, phone session, live chat, or in-app messaging. This flexibility makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy schedule and access support from wherever is convenient.
Therapists offering online services are licensed professionals, and clients have the option to switch therapists if they are seeking a different fit. For many people, remote therapy provides an accessible, effective way to address everyday mental health and relationship concerns.
