Self-esteem refers to the way you value and view yourself – your sense of self-worth, confidence, and belief in your abilities. Healthy self-esteem allows you to accept strengths and weaknesses, set boundaries, pursue goals, and cope with setbacks. Deciding to work on self-esteem is a courageous first step. You don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out. Start by identifying one small goal—speaking up more in a meeting, setting a boundary with a friend, or practicing kinder self-talk—and mention it when you contact a therapist.
