Dr. Tina Smith holds a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision and is licensed to practice as a professional counselor in both Colorado and Texas. She is also a National Certified Counselor in the United States and is licensed in Texas to provide sex offender treatment. Dr. Smith brings six years of experience in the mental health counseling field.
Her clinical approach blends Choice Theory - the idea that our choices produce consequences - with evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, reflecting a commitment to practical, results-oriented work. She emphasizes the therapeutic relationship as the essential support for meaningful change.
Dr. Smith offers expertise across clinical mental health and correctional settings, providing specialized counseling for adults and juveniles. Her practice includes sexual abuser-specific treatment, sexual addictions, adjustment to major life changes, personality disorders, relationship and communication challenges, and work with addictions and trauma. She has extensive experience supporting clients with active suicidality and suicidal ideation, as well as individuals experiencing active hallucinations and delusions.
She has provided services in both online and face-to-face environments and favors a strengths-based, “meet them where they are” philosophy. Dr. Smith has worked with diverse populations across cultures, races, and ethnicities, including members of BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities and clients with varied religious and legal backgrounds.
Her experience includes substantial work with sexual abusers, including individuals with active psychopathy and developmental delays, supported by her sex offender treatment licensure. She has completed level one training in the Gottman Method for couples counseling and enjoys helping partners develop relationships grounded in respect and joy.
Helping people find their answers and witnessing their progress through pain, fear, and hopelessness is a continuing reward of Dr. Smith’s work in counseling.
Many people wonder whether meeting with a therapist online can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or navigating major life transitions, online therapy has been shown to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person care.
An important advantage is the flexibility it offers - you can meet with a therapist in the way that suits you best, whether that is through video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. This flexibility makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy life.
Sessions are provided by licensed professionals, and if you decide another therapist would be a better fit, you have the option to switch at any time.
